William Gamaliel Thompson was the last of the three generations of Thompson's to live at the 101 Summit Street address. Born on April 15,  1913 to William R. & Louise (Allen) Thompson, William Thompson would go on to attend Brown University and Harvard Law School.  He served in the Navy during World War II.  While in the service, William Thompson acquired a love for oriental jade carvings, starting an oriental art collection that would rapidly grow over the next 60 years.

When his father died in 1949, William G. Thompson took over as the third president of the Thompson Savings Bank, serving in that role until 1992.  Active in community affairs, Mr. Thompson served on the  Hudson Library Board for 62 years.  He was also active in the United Methodist Church,  and supported the Hudson Museum and City Parks.
