Volunteer Policy

 

Volunteers are vital to the mission of the W. G. Thompson House Museum, as they help to supplement the efforts of paid museum staff to provide a quality museum experience to all visitors.  In addition, the volunteer positions create opportunities for individuals to feel personal satisfaction and connection to the community. If you would like to be involved in a fulfilling project using your skills, talents, and expertise there are many areas where volunteers are needed: on-site guides for the house and gardens, outreach docents, special events and programs volunteers, and behind-the-scenes volunteers. Training and materials will be provided by the Museum. A record will be kept of your volunteer service for work or school-related purposes.

 

By filling out the following, I agree to the following:

 

1.)  A volunteer is a person who performs tasks for the W. G. Thompson Museum and Archives without wages, benefits, or compensation (including travel expenses) of any kind.

2.)  Volunteers are recognized by the public as representatives of the Museum and shall be guided by the same work and behavior codes as the regular employees.  They work with the status of “at-will” employees.

3.)  Volunteers may perform such tasks as sorting materials, assisting in upkeep of the grounds, developing displays, guiding tours, or other tasks that assist the curator.

4.)  The William G. Thompson Foundation does not provide workers compensation coverage for volunteers.

5.)  Volunteers will fill out volunteer information registration forms which will be kept on file.  Minor children may only work as volunteers with the consent of a parent or legal guardian.

6.)  Volunteers may be subject to background screening and/or a formal interview.  Volunteers may need to provide references.
