New England Glass Company– is located in East Cambridge Massachusetts, and was owned by Edward E. Libbey. It functioned there from 1818-1888. The company was then moved to Toledo, Ohio because of a labor strike. It still produces glass today as Libbey-Owens-Ford Co.

 

Hobnail– is a specific pattern on glassware which is created in a mold It consists of a regular raised pattern of dots  that look similar to the studs sometimes used on the soles of boots..

 

Hobbs & Brokunier- were the proprietors and designers for the Wheeling Glass Company, which opened in 1863, in Wheeling, West Virginia.

 

C.F. Monroe Company-was located in Meriden, Connecticut from 1892-1916.

 

Dalzell, Gilmore & Leighton Co- was a glass works located in Findlay, Ohio, from 1888-1899. It was then overtaken buy United States Glass Company.

 

Thomas Webb- originally worked out of Stourbridge, England. He was a designer for Mt. Washington Glass Company.

 

Mount Washington Glass Works– is America’s second oldest glass company. It was opened in south Boston in 1837. It advertised itself as “America’s Head Quarters for Collectable Art Glassware” in 1890.

 

L.C. Tiffany– was formally trained as a painter, but later became more interested in the decorative arts. In 1880 he patented the process for his well known iridescent glass. In 1885 he formed Tiffany Glass Company, to meet the rising demands for his popular and innovative home furnishings, which also included stained-glass windows and lamps.
